When Conrad Beissel established the Ephrata Cloister in 1732, scarcely could he have imagined that the seed of his work would survive to captivate minds and inspire hearts of future generation. Ever since the first curious visitors arrived in 1736 people from around the globe have come to learn of the Cloister’s people and their accomplishments. Just as the treasures of Ephrata required dedication to create, they require an equal commitment for their continued preservation.

Today, a special community of people called the Ephrata Cloister Associates helps to preserve the heritage of this historic site and share its stories. Through their effort, the non-profit group helps to support the continuing legacy of Ephrata.

  • original artifacts are returned to the collections
  • school programs educate visiting youth about the history of the early community
  • volunteers share their time and talents as guides, and as part of special programs such as the Ephrata Cloister Chorus, the Student Historians, and The Museum Store
  • scholars continue to probe the records to learn more about the intriguing past

For nearly half a century the Ephrata Cloister Associates have supported the continued preservation of the historic site. With their dedication, Ephrata continues to be a place which offers refreshment for the soul.
